Love Emblem

Charles W. "Chuck" Smith, age 61, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 16, 2016, in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where he had vacationed every July for more than twenty years.

Born in 1954, he was the son of Charles S. and Joan (Hopkins) Smith. He was raised in St. Georges, Delaware. He graduated from the University of Delaware and the University of Wisconsin with a Masters of Library Science. He had a 32 year career with the Free Library of Philadelphia.

Chuck was retired and enjoying all of his passions, travel, gardening, cooking, opera, the arts, and his love of nature. He planned many trips with family and friends to share his discoveries. We will miss his love of sharing with family and friends his travels around the world, especially Vienna.

A loving and devoted partner, son, brother, uncle and friend, Chuck will be missed. In addition to his parents, Chuck is survived by his lifelong partner of 23 years, Richard Harris; siblings Brenda (Bill) Walters, Carrie (Jamie) Szczecinski, Wendy (John) Smith-Kerr, Andrew Smith; and nieces and nephews, Brendan and Phillip Walters, Julia, Dan, Kelly and John Szczecinski, Breanna, Zane and Esme Kerr, and Eric, Adam and Emily Smith. Also grieving are his lifelong friends, Donna Bringardner, Don Root, Bob Hadfield and Margaret Morris.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at New Castle Presbyterian Church, 25 E. 2nd Street, New Castle, DE 19720 at 10:30am, where a Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am. Burial will be private.
