Love Emblem

Esther Marrero Fernandez

October 31, 1926 - March 4, 2017

Esther Fernandez was born Esther Marrero Crespo in Camaguey, Cuba. She lived there with her parents, two sisters and one brother until migrating to the United States in 1956, to join the love of her life and father of their two very young daughters, Maria Elena and Maria Esther. They went with a dream.

Once in America, Esther had two more children, two sons named Henry and Frank. Her husband, Enrique Fernandez, began a committed endeavor to work in this country and make a wonderful life for his beautiful family.
Her children can attest to the fact that she had "the patience of a saint" and never lost her temper with them or even raised her voice. Esther was supportive and encouraging, wise and kind and very proud of all four of her incredible children.

Esther was the epitome and true definition of selflessness.

She had a strong connection and love for animals, especially cats. She was a phenomenal seamstress, creating elaborate and beautiful clothes for her children in their youth. She also made her two daughters, daughters in law and granddaughters' wedding dresses and eventually her grandchildren's Halloween costumes, all by hand. Esther truly spread her gift with love and passion.

Esther was an incredible cook, often making several different courses for her family each day and night, anything to make the ones she loved happy.

She always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family.

Esther will forever be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife and mother who always had a smile even when times were tough. She never complained and always looked to a better future.

Things became very bleak after the sudden loss of her eldest daughter, Maria Elena. How can a person be so strong as to be able to endure such heartbreak? Esther was a devout catholic with tremendous faith. With strength from the Lord and her family's support, she persevered forward
and endured for her family, as the strong matriarch that she was.

Esther Fernandez was her family's hero; she fought the good fight that they needed her to.

May her soul be at peace with the Lord.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith". 2 Timothy 4:7

She is preceded in death by her husband, Enrique Fernandez; daughter, Maria Elena Fernandez Guercio; her parents, Emilio Marrero Amieva and Evarista Marrero Crespo Perez; brother, Emilio Marrero Crespo; and sister, Alicia Matrone Marrero Crespo.

She is survived by her daughter, Maria Esther Russo; sons, Henry Fernandez (Renée) and Frank Fernandez (Lisa); son in law, Clem Guercio; her sister, Silvia Regina Pendas; and nephew, Ernesto Martinez Marrero; grandchildren, Joseph Guercio (Tammi), Elena Marino (Danny), Donald Russo and Keith Russo, Matthew Fernandez (Brooke), Kelly Fernandez Loeffler (Andrew).
