Eugene "Gene" P. Solge Jr., age 70, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017.

Gene grew up in Fairfax, Delaware. He attended St. Mary Magdalen Grade School, graduated from Brandywine High school and then enlisted in the Army National Guard. After being honorably discharged from the Army National Guard, Gene went to work for Urie & Blanton Welding. He retired from Keen Compressed Gas in December, 2016 after 25 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Talleyville Fire Company for over 50 years, the Talleyville Mixed Bowling league and the South Jersey Bird Club.

Gene's greatest loves were his two granddaughters, Meghan and Hannah, who both brought much joy and laughter to his life. Gene was a huge Philadelphia sports fan and had countless hobbies and collections. He was devoted to his two dogs, Murphy and Molly.

Gene is survived by his son, Gene Solge, III (Michele); granddaughters, Meghan and Hannah; his sister, Pam Cherrix (Wayne); and niece, Heather Rew. He was predeceased by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Betty Solge; two infant sons, Christopher Nicholas and Michael David; his father, Eugene P Solge, Sr., and his mother, Florence Hindsley.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 10:00 am-11:30 am at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19803. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30am. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Gene's name to the Talleyville Fire Company, 3919 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803; or the Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19801.
