James Freeman Hardy, age 86, of New Castle, DE, formerly of Boissevain, VA passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
As a young man, Jim joined the United States Army as soon as he became of age. Freeman served his country honorably during the Korean War with the brave young men along side him.
After the war, he returned to Virginia where he met the love of his life, Hazel Marie Sizemore in 1953 and were happily married for 63 years.
Jim worked for General Motors on the assembly line. After 30 years of hard work with G.M., he retired to spend time with his family.
Jim's favorite things in life were hunting deer in the Hills of West Virginia, gardening during the summer and spending time with his grandchildren, especially on his "Spa" days. His favorite musician was the King of Pop, Elvis and his favorite song was "My Way".
Mr. Hardy was predeceased by son, Joe Hardy, Jr.; his grandson, Billie Joe Hardy, Jr. and his sister, Ruth Ann Miller.
Jim is survived by his wife, Hazel Marie Hardy; his two daughters, Sheila (Walter) Krauss of New Castle and Donna (Mark) Wright of New Castle; his son, James A. Hardy of Newark; and brother, Claymon Rutledge of North Carolina, along with 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, with 2 arriving this summer; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 11 am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720. Friends and family may call at 10 am for the Visitation hour. The Committal Service will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1 PM, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701.
