Joan Verna Light, age 84, of Millsboro, DE, formerly of New London, PA and Claymont, DE passed away after a long illness on Thursday, February 16th, 2017 at Cadia Rehabilitation Renaissance, Millsboro, DE.

Joan was a 1949 graduate of Claymont High School. She spent many years as a head teller in the banking industry in the Wilmington area and as a receptionist at the Masonic Home of Delaware. She was a past member of the Ruth Chapter #19 OES.

The family would like to sincerely thank the Cadia Renaissance Rehabilitation staff for their care and loving support for Joan over these last years. We also want to thank the staff of the Compassionate Care Hospice for their gentle touch in these past few months.

Joan is predeceased by her parents, Sam and Leona Bland; her husband, Robert Light; two daughters, Robin Guiney, Dorothy Townsend and son-in-law, Jack Brennan. She is survived by her sister, Faith Bland; her children, Robert Light and his wife, Elizabeth, Sam Light, Ann Brennan and son-in-law, Robert Guiney; grandchildren, Heather Guiney, Robert Guiney (Tammy), Meredith Guiney, Jennifer Light, Cliff Light and Margret Stokes; and fifteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February, 25, 2017 at 10am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, where friends may visit with the family from 9am – 10am. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
