John Emerson Archer, age 81, of Claymont, DE died August 28, 2016.

John was born in Reading, PA, the son of F. Emerson and S. Agnes Archer. He attended Mount Pleasant H.S. and received a BA and MA from West Chester State Teachers College. He taught Social Studies and helped with intramural sports and jazz club. He had a love of music, especially jazz, Big Bands and Frank Sinatra. He loved subs, peanut butter, the Eagles, Phillies, Penn State Football and Big 5 Basketball. He belonged to the Pennsylvania Geographic Assoc., Claymont Lions Club and the Union Veterans of the Civil War.

He leaves his wife, Ann of 48 years, whom he met as a pen pal from England through the 1960's World's Fair. Also, his brother, Robert Archer (Joyce) of Indiana; a sister, Suzanne Foertsch (Gary) of Texas; a niece, Lisa Archer; nephews, Greg and Tim Archer, Michael and Robert Foertsch; and several cousins.

Friends are invited to attend a viewing on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 6:00pm -7:30pm, where a funeral service will begin at 7:30pm at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem, NJ on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00am.
