Walter "Butch" F. McClain III, age 48, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.

Butch graduated from Delcastle High School in 1986 and started his 28 year career with Alcatel-Lucent Technologies. Butch was actively involved in the N.C.C. men's softball league for 15 years, where he developed strong relationships with his teammates. Butch was well known for his long conversations and big warm hugs.

Butch is adored by his four nieces and is well known for his excellent taste in picking out their birthday outfits. Butch is best known for his love of family, baking the best carrot cakes, his cat Shamus, the Rolling Stones, Winward Racing and being the biggest "cheese head" the Packers have ever seen.

He was predeceased by his mother, Linda Jean McClain.

He is survived by his father, Walter F. McClain, Jr.; step mother, Diane McClain; sisters, Kellie J. Morris and Keri J. McClain; and his nieces, Brittany J. Walls, Linda K., Haley J. and Colleen A. Morris; his step brothers, Gary and Billy Martin, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 9 am to 11 am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont DE 19703. The interment will immediately follow the visitation at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N DuPont Hwy., New Castle, DE 19720.
